Inside
Dear Readers: After millions of college students
have struggled through final exams, you would
think that at least one of them would have come
up with a cure for pre-test anxiety. Obviously,
however, we’re still waiting.
For some of us, it is too late to prepare fully
for finals— when the idea of beginning studies
early came up, there was always something
better to do. But we have hints from a doctoral
candidate in counseling psychology on how to
make the most of what little time there is left to
study.
Perhaps the most difficult part of cramming is
staying awake. For many students, however,
countless doses of caffeine work wonders to
keep their eyes open and their brains awake.
But keeping oneself going while pumped up on
a caffeine high is not without its liabilities. And
it’s a fact that there just isn V a substitute for
sleep.
We’ve listed some places that will be open
late for students looking for a place to study as
an alternative to the dormitory desk or kitchen
table—a place removed from the couch, the
TV, the bed... And for those of you looking for
a study break, movie, TV and live music
schedules are provided as usual ■
:;^Mth this issue comes our last “Dear Reader” g
letter and the end of the weekly At Ease section.
Next semester, look for entertainment coverage
on the inside pages of Monday and Thursdays
Battalions, Under the new formal; we hope to
provide expanded coverage of features and
entertainment events. Have any suggestions of
what you would like to see included in the
entertainment pages? Send us a letter. We
would appreciate your input.
Don’t forget — finals start Friday. Best of
...feicfcj and best wishes for ihe hpjkSys.

Caffeine 8
Caffeine is the nighttime reading, writing, studying, cram
ming stay awake so you can pass medicine. But do you
really learn or just stare at your notes while your mind
sleeps? Chuck Lovejoy examines the question and also
looks at the not-so-wonderful effects of this wonder drug.
Last minute jitters 9
Every semester we go through it. The week of the living
dead. Finals week. Cray Pixley asks experts how and
how not to study. What she found may save your grade!
Attention!! 2,4
The last of this semester’s Attention!! submissions are in.
At Ease has devoted two pages to Attention!! in order to
include as many submissions as possible. This week we
hear from R. Sean Dunham, Andrew M. Fischbach, Joy
Childress and Rick Watson.
"Scrooged" 5
This is Dickens in the ‘80s, and Shane says it is perhaps
the best movie of the Christmas season.
"Mystic Pizza" 5
Please, hold the cheese next time. Shane says it’s a bit
predictable, but likeable.
"Have a Merry Chess Christmas" 5
Not just an ordinary Christmas album. Shane says this
one delivers!
Late night munchies 6
When it’s time to study, it’s time to eat! Kelly Boylan talks
to local businesses that say finals bring students into res-
turants and stores in hordes.
