Inside Dear Readers: Most of you came to college with hopes of learning how to make money — lots of money. The need for money arose when you wanted your first toy. But the drive to earn money emerges long before college graduation arrives. Some students fill their financial needs with part-time or summer jobs. But others supplement their cash flow by starting a business. This week At Ease focuses on A&M student entrepreneurs. Starting a business requires lots of time and even more money. Our main story talked to experts about the best ways to make a new business successful. We also found a few students who have turned their ideas into thriving local businesses. Our next story focuses on students who make money doing their hobbies, which range from drawing cartoons to performing in bands. The profits may not be enormous, but the artists enjoy their work. Money probably isn’t the motive for these students; they love their work. For this weeks profile we found a student who lives with 20 furry, long-haired cats. Although she is a cat-lover, these cats are not all pets. After her kittens are old enough to leave the apartment she sells them for $300 to other cat-lovers across the country. The Attention!! page submissions continue to come in, and we are doing our best to print them all. We do have a small surplus, so we will get to them as soon as possible. We are not getting any photographs or drawings If you are an artist or photographer, please submit some of your works. They can’t wait four years after graduation before their Aggie heritage makes them boss. So they become their own boss, while they’re still in school. Even if they begin with as humble business as selling T-shirts in the MSC, they’re ultimately pursuing the American dream. Not all work is no play 10 You’ve heard of them: people who have fun working, who like doing what they do. Now At Ease gives you a chance to meet some students who’ve found a way to make money (even if it isn’t very much) by doing things they like to do. Life at a cattery 7 Our profile subject this week lives with 20 exotic roommates in an efficiency apartment. And when she finds buyers, she sells them for about $300 apiece, as pets. But it’s not as kinky as it sounds. Live Music 5 Shane found the Spin to be a fantastic cover band, able to play material all across the rock ’n’ roll spectrum. Album Review 5 The most shocking thing about Jane’s Addiction’s newest album, “Nothing’s Shocking,” is the ter rific music, Shane says. Powerful lyrics and mod ern sound make it one of this year’s best. Movie Review 4 Shane says “Alien Nation” blends suspense and violent action into an exciting story dealing with racism on a cosmic scale.
