As a headlining act, Wazobia
has performed at the Houston
International Festival and at the
Annual Bob Marley Day
Celebration. They also
performed at the annual
Halloween on Market Square
festival in downtown Houston.
The band performs at clubs
and universities throughout the
state.
In 1987, a poll of Houston
music fans voted Wazobia as
Best Reggae Band. Quite an
accomplishment after being
called “the best kept musical
secret in Houston in 1986. ”
Tickets are available for
Wazobia’s A&M performance
and cost $4 each. The show
will run from 9 p.m. until 11:15
p.m.

Reggae band Wazobia will
bring their Caribbean
“riddims” to Texas A&M
Friday night. The Houston
quintet will perform at 9 p.m. in
DeWare Field House in a
concert presented by MSC
Town Hall.
Wazobia’s members are
Terry, vocals and guitar; Coles,
synthesizers and Drumulator;
Darryl, drums; Lee,
saxophone; and Kofi, bass.
Kofi is also the band’s
manager.
In addition to reggae,
Wazobia performs various
upbeat styles of African music,
including Soca, Juju and
Makossa. The band’s
Afro/Caribbean sound is often
described as “exclusive tropical
music designed to move the
feet in the most happy
fashion.”
Wazobia has toured the state
extensively, both on their own
and as an opening act for other
reggae groups. In 1986, they
opened for the now-defunct
Jamaican reggae band Burning
Spear in Houston. They also
have opened shows for Alpha
Movies
