Carlson subbed for injured quar terback Warren Moon and com pleted two touchdown passes. Pinkett, filling in for Mike Rozier, scored his third touchdown with 31 seconds left to play, rallying the Oil ers to a 38-35 victory over the Los Angeles Raiders. Glanville said, “Before the game, others may have wondered if Cody Carlson could play well, but no one with the Oilers was surprised. No one was surprised the Allen Pinkett played well. The Oilers also managed to win without starting cornerback Steve Brown, sidelined by a hamstring in jury. “We’ve been able to develop some depth, and that’s a plus for us,” Glanville said. The Oilers came from behind twice to win, starting their game winning drive with 2:50 left in the game. The Oilers also have developed some confidence, Glanville said. “When we got the ball with under three minutes to play, everyone on the sidelines felt we had them just where we wanted them,” Glanville said. Problem Pregnancy' The Oilers’ defensive line also was a collective star in the game, sacking Raiders quarterback Steve Beuerlein five times, including 2 1 /2 by de fensive end William Fuller. “Our defensive line sets the tone with a lot of hard work,” Glanville said. “It’s fashionable to say that we’ve got great talent and great ath letes but the fact is, we work very hard.” Glanville also was kind to rookie cornerback Cris Dishman, who started for Brown and was penalized twice in the first three plays of the game. Told that Dishman had been de jected following the game, Glanville said, “He shouldn’t be down, be cause he made some great plays. Ev erything that he did wrong can be corrected. “It has nothing to do with athletic ability.” The Oilers, among the most heav ily penalized teams last season, were flagged 15 times for 186 yards in pe nalties against the Raiders. A 28-yard pass interference pen alty ayainst cornprback Patrick Allen in the end zone, gave the Raiders the ball at the Oiler 1-yard line and set up their final score. But the Oilers overcame penalties and injury to remain unbeaten through four preseason games and two regular-season contests. “This is about as much fun as it gets,” Glanville said. From the Bleachers 12th Man served injustice at LSD EDITOR: There has been a great injustice done against the 12th Man. Saturday night, shortly after halftime of the LSU game, my roommate, his girlfriend and I were escorted out of Tiger Stadium by four police officers for standing up. When I tried to tell the officers that it was a tradition here to stand up during football games, he told us to follow him below the stands. Once down, the officer told us that we were causing a disturbance and being discourteous to the fans begind us. 1 tried to point out that there were approximately twenty rows of Aggie and LSU fans standing in front of us. After this, the officer grabbed my hands, forced them behind my back, pushed my face into a chain-link fence, and asked me if I wanted to go to jail. While this was going on, my roommate and his girlfriend were also being harrassed by another officer. The two officers then grabbed our arms and escorted us out of the gate. After being kicked out of Tiger Stadium, w'e tried to talk to a man with the LSU Athletic Department about the incident and he told us there w 7 as nothing he could do. To say the least, we were very angry and decided that the Texas A&M student body should know what happened. I have been to many out-of-town games and have never had anything like this happen to me. I think that after the near-riot that LSU fans caused last year at Kyle Field and the discourteous treatment that Aggies received this year, the Texas A&M Athletic Department should consider not giving any tickets to LSU fans next year. Steve Bullard ’90 Editor’s note: A&M is contracted to supply a certain number of tick ets to LSU, as well as any other school that sends its team to Kyle Field to play the Aggies. Have some spirit, football playersl EDITOR: Recently, my roommate and 1 attended a Texas A&M women’s volleyball game. We were deeply offended to seeil^ football player sitting below us (obviously a football playeri the two diamonds in his Cotton Bowl ring) did not stand anil participate in the yells led hy our yell leaders. Yes, those same yell leaders who work diligently toleadtl entire A&M student body in support of the Aggie footballtei even through four quarters of a game when our team isdov feel that it is an insult to the volleyball team, the veilleadersji to fellow Aggies when a member of our football team doesr* have the decency to support other athletics in the same wap we support the football team. Part of being an Aggie is being able to support all Aggiesi situations. We are proud of Texas A&M and proud tobeA and we would like to see everyone able to express theirAgm Spirit with as much enthusiasm as we do. Don’t get us wrong, we still love our football team. Wejus want to encourage them to participate as part of our highly thought-of student body. YVe would also like to congratulate the women s volleyball team in their victory over Northwestern and we would likeii, think that we share in that victory through our support.
