starts tonight
at golf course

begin action as the 1988 Cross Coun
try season begins for Texas A&M’s
men’s and women’s teams this eve
ning with the Texas A&M Invitatio
nal Meet at the Texas A&M golf
course.
Five teams will help the Aggies be
gin Colburn’s second year at the
helm of the A&M Cross Country
program. Baylor, Louisiana State,
Lamar, Prairie View A&M and San
Jacinto Junior College are scheduled
to compete.
The meet will consist of a three-
mile run for the women and a five-
mile run for the men. _
Colburn is eager to get the season
started and hopes to use the meet as
a gauge of where his team is in com
parison to other squads in the re-
gion.
“This is the first meet and its early
in the season, so it’s a relatively small
meet to kick off the season,” Colburn
said. “We use this meet to see where
we are before the conference sched
ule.
“The toughest competition will
come from Baylor and LSU, who is a
power in the SEC.”
The meet will begin at 6 p.m. with
the women’s three-mile run. The
men’s five-mile run follows at 6:30.
