DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Bal
let dancers, hoping to save the fiiia-
nically troubled company, have
agreed to accept only half of the
back pay owed them, their union
leader said Tuesday.
“We felt like now that we’ve got
the product, let’s not fall,” Kent
White, a dancer who is acting as
corps’ union representative, said.
“We said ‘Let’s find way to pay debts
and continue with what we have.’ "
Leaders of the Dallas Ballet an
nounced Mondav night that thev will
start a new season this fall with a re
structured debt, smaller budget and
a full complement of dancers.
One of the keys to the comeback is
an agreement by the dancers to ac
cept half of the back pay owed them,
Jack Page, the ballet’s executive di
rector, said.
“We’re looking on it as a dona
tion,” White said, adding the darn

Dallas company raise funds.
“There are three members who
are not happy with the arrangement,

with it.”
Page said the 30 dancers were
owed about $150,000 for 10 weeks

BEAUMONT (AP) — A police
union president wants City Council
to return the police department to
two-officer patrol units in the wake
of the recent slaying of an officer
who was killed while working alone.
Sgt. Mike Siebe, president of the
Beaumont Police Officers Associa
tion, said he also will ask council
members next week to supply offi
cers with modern bullet-proof vests
at the city’s expense.

with police safety after last week’s
shooting death of Officer Paul
Douglas Hulsey Jr. as he investi-
gated a suspect with a stolen car at a
Beaumont hotel, Siebe told the
