Page 6/At Ease/Thursday, March 24,1988 Art show to benefit local center By james johnson The Texas Artisans and the A&M Physical Therapy Club will present its first Brazos Art Classic show and sale in Rudder Exhibit Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The show will feature the work of twenty-four Texas artists who have been critically acclaimed in both the state and the nation. Depicting cultures from western to contemporary, the artists’ entries range in price from $100 to $55,000. Proceeds from the sale of art will benefit the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, a local facility devoted to supporting the disabled. Among the program’s exhibitors will be Dalhart Windberg, a nationally renowned artist who will unveil 10 of his masterpieces totaling more than $200,000 including one painting valued at $50,000. “Windberg is a very exquisite artist and should draw an exceptionally large crowd, ” says Frances Pieman, executive secretary of the Rehabilitation Center. Tickets for the Friday night exhibit are available to the public for $12.50 at the MSC Box Office. The ticket price will include admission to a private artist’s reception that will give those attending the opportunity to meet the artists and purchase the art work. Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday for those who wish to view or buy the remaining exhibits. Saturday’s show is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday afternoon’s exhibit will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The show will include oil paintings, water color entries and an authentic sculpture by Ronnie Wells, the 1984 Ducks Unlimited artist of the year. Wells will be joined by other popular artists such as Bob Wygant, president of the Texas Association of Professional Artists (TAPA), George Hallmark, nominated by Sen. Phil Gramm as the 1988 artist of the year, and James H. Johnson, an A&M graduate who was named Texas artist of the year in 1982. Other guest artists include Russell Cushman, Jim Robinson, John Pototschnik, Martin Grelle, Vaughn Wyatt, David Griffin, Jimmy Dyer, Lee Herring, Tony Eubanks, George Seville and M.D. Laird. Participants who will represent the Texas Artisans include Jean Westbrook, Doxie Wootan, June Dudley, Betty Blevins, Johnnie Griffin, Dwade Engle, Bernice Brown and Rosemary Wilson. Johnnie Griffin, chairman of the show, says the Brazos Valley area is very fortunate to have so many well-known artists to participate in the show. “This is the first time that this area has ever had the opportunity to present the show,” Pieman says. “Just the exposure to such an event should be really educational and worth every bit of time and money involved in putting it together. ” ‘v • ■ /•* y-. v • * All movies and times are provided by the theaters, and are subject to change.
