speak during a “sandwich seminar” at noon in the Institute Building. There also

Animal rights group pickets

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — An
animal rights group plans to picket
the Miss USA pageant in El Paso
during its national broadcast March
1 because the winner receives a lull-
length fur coat.
Longtime pageant master of cere
monies Bob Barker resigned last
month over the same issue.
Pageant directors probably won’t
change their minds, but the protest
should make the public more aware
of animal rights, said Bob Young, di
rector of the Las Cruces chapter of
Sangre de Cristo Animal Protection.
Barker threatened to pull out of
the 1987 pageant in Albuquerque,
N.M., when he learned the 10 semi-
finalists would wear fur coats. He
agreed to stay when the contestants
were provided with synthetic furs.
