Cultural calander comes

The Texas A&M campus has
long been thought of as
culturally deficient. To dispel
this popular myth and to
improve A&M’s cultural image,
the MSC Opera and
Performing Arts Society is
sponsoring a week-long
extravaganza of events.
“We are trying to disprove
the ‘College Station is a cultural
black hole’ myth, ” says Paul
Weisepape, director of OPAS’
Focus on the Performing Arts
Week.
The week of cultural events
begins Sunday, Feb. 14 and
continues through the
following Saturday.
“The week will be a series of
events and performances
designed to spotlight different
areas of the performing arts, ”
Weisepape says. The week will
involve activities in the area of
music, dance and drama.
The shedule of events will
conclude with the 7th Annual
OPAS/Roadrunner: Run for
the Arts, consisting of a 5K run
and a 1 mile Fun Run. Prizes
and trophies will be awarded.
This is the first year that
FOPA Week has been held,
Weisepape says.
“We hope to make FOPA
Week an annual event
compariable to Student
Conference on National
Affairs,” he says.
