Jl/lflfrld/-— Dear Readers: Take a moment and think of the people you see on a daily basis as you travel about the Bryan-College Station area. As students, you definitely run into more than your fair share of young adults. You probably see several families as well at the grocery store, at church and in the malls. But do you see older people? Are you aware of the large elderly population in the area? Chances are, you're probably not That's why At Ease has taken this opportunity to give you a glimpse of the older population which, although somewhat invisible, is omnipresent and very active in the local community. Our main story is a broad overview of the situations surrounding the area's elderly— their numbers, their problems, the facilities and services available to them and some ways in which they help themselves. We highlight several local nursing homes and institutions for the elderly and try to give you an idea of how some of the area's elderly prople live. The elderly also volunteer to help their fellow senior citizens. This is the topic for our second story as we feature several organizations and individuals who work to make others' lives more pleasant Related to volunteer work is paid employment of the elderly, so we’ve included stones on both the victories and downfalls in this field. Our profile this week is about a student who feels a strong desire to share his talents with others. Like many college students, he volunteers his free time to please others. Aggienizing Answers this week investigates students' feelings toward the Social Security program. Many people don't have a very optimistic view of this government program, and most students don’t believe there is much hope of them ever seeing the money they have contributed to the program. Finally, we would like to beg you once more to PLEASE SUBMIT TO THE ATTENTION!! PAGE. We will be discontinuing the page in two weeks unless we receive some submissions. We realize that the beginning of the semester is a busy time, and one of the last things on your minds is submitting articles or pictures, but just empty promises.
