In a related development, plans
for a privately owned, off-campus
dormitory fell through last week, so
a solution from that quarter does not
appear to be coming soon.
An Austin Firm’s Oct. 1 plan to
buy the 17-story Ramada Inn of Col
lege Station and convert it into a pri
vate dormitory did not materialize.
After negotiations lasting through
October, November, December and
part of this month, the FDIC, which
owns 53 percent of the 363-room
hotel, and 13 banks, which own the
rest, could not agree on terms to sell
the hotel.
John Needham, an officer for By
rum Properties, said his company
has no immediate plans to try to
make another deal, and they are not
aware of any similar plans for pri
vate dorms in College Station.

DALLAS (AP) — Bishop College
officials were trying to raise
$300,000 by Tuesday night’s dead
line to qualify for a matching grant
from an anonymous donor but said
they had no idea how close they were
to reaching their goal
“We are moving ahead in our ef
forts but we have no idea of the sta
tus of the campaign,” said Dr. M.
Christine Gilmore of the president’s
office.
The deadline was set by the anon

The money would help the school
escape its financial woes, which led
the U.S. Department of Education to
deny the school $400,000 in federal
financial aid last month. The depart
ment has given the school until
March 3 1 to overcome its fmaii:
problems.
Meanwhile, an East Texas shr
