Cowboys Coach Tom Landry Wednesday announced that starting quarterback Danny White would rest his sore right wrist and will not work out until Friday, saying it’s a “possi bility” that Pelluer will take over Sunday. Both quarterbacks said they were told by coaches that White will be saved for a possible playoff situation. The team plans to use Pelluer in the Miami game and the Minnesota game on Thanksgiving as the Cow boys play two games in four days, observers said. “Given the situation with the team we’re playing and the short time be tween games, I feel certain they will start Steve,” White said. “I have a very sore wrist and the only way to solve that is to change quarterbacks.” If Pelluer starts, he said, “I don’t think I’ll play unless I’m needed.” White’s wrist was broken in a game last season against the Giants. He said doctors told him cartilage is deteriorating in his wrist. Once the cartilage is gone, it will have to be fused, he said. Coach Paul Hackett said of the change, “It was a great decision by Coach (Landry) in terms of the tim ing. “This is an ideal time for the team to rise above, and it can’t just come from Steve. It’s got to be Steve and the psyche and Herschel (Walker) and everthing,” Hackett said. “Plus, it’s money in the bank for us because Danny’s resting.” Also considered in the timing for starting a new quarterback is Miami’s poor pass defense record. The Dol phins have sacked the quarterback only 12 times in nine games. Pelluer was sacked 47 times when he started eight games last season while White recovered from his bro ken wrist. Dallas’ offensive line has not im proved since last year, and White has been sacked 35 times in seven starts. White’s passing rating has fallen to 69.6 and he has thrown 12 inter ceptions, compared with six touch down passes. Batt picks Here’s a brief rundown of somi the Battalion football pics.
