Miller Lecture Series will present “AIDS — Why Should I Care?” a Five- lecture presentation, Wednesday. “People don’t realize how AIDS can affect them,” said Neille Kopp, director of speakers for the lecture series. “It’s all around and they certainly need to know how not to get it, but they also need to know how to react.” Gene Marcum, Texas Instru ments Human Resources and De velopment department manager and speaker with the Houston AIDS Foundation, will discuss “AIDS in the Workplace” at 10 a.m. in 410 Rudder. Marcum, whose son died of ac quired immune deficiency syn drome, has served on several city and state AIDS committees. Judy Weil, a social worker with the Institute for Immunological Disorders in Houston will present “AIDS 101” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the MSC Flag Room. “She does a lot of work with AIDS pa tients in the hospital and gives a lot of educational talks,” Kopp said. Dr. William Simon, sociology professor at the University of Houston, will speak on “Chang ing Morals and Behaviors” at noon in 410 Rudder. “He thinks that all the talk about sex and about sex being dangerous will want to make peo ple do it more,” Kopp said. Dr. Peter Mansell, medical di rector for the Center for Immu nological Disorders in Houston, will talk about “AIDS Research” at 2 p.m. in 410 Rudder. A panel discussion on “AIDS and Ethics” will be held at 8 p.m. in Rudder Theater. Panel mem bers Jeff Levi, president of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force; Dr. Earl Shelp, assistant professor of ethics at Baylor Col lege of Medicine’s Center for Ethics and political activist Phyllis Schlafly also will answer questions from the audience. Dr. Clarence Alfrey, medical director of the Gulf Coast Re gional Blood Center, will moder ate the discussion. There is no admission charge for any of the programs.
