A&M freshman receiver Gary Oliver celebrates his fourth quarter touchdown reception from quarterback Craig

Granted, few people expected
Saturday’s Texas A&M — Arkansas
matchup to be an offensive show
case, but who would have thought:
• The 20th-
ranked Razor- 1
backs would AnGlySIS
gain only 125
total yards in
four quarters of play, with 65 of
those coming in the the final quar
ter?
• In a winning effort, the A&M
offense could only muster 211
yards?
• A modern-day Razorback of
fensive attack would only attempt six
passes against an Aggie defense that
has been hurt by well-balanced at
tacks all year?
• That senior quarterback Craig
Stump, relegated to sideline signal
service for most of the year, would
come in and lead the Aggies to an
impressive 78-yard, 16-play touch
down drive that effectively extended
Arkansas’ non-Cotton Bowl streak to
13 disappointing years?
A&M’s starting strong safety Chet
Brooks, for one, wasn’t at all sur
prised by the Ags’ 14-0 victory.
“The 125 yards, the goose eggs on
the scoreboard, speaks for itself,”
Brooks said.
“I think they got frustrated, defi
nitely frustrated after the first cou
ple of series,” he said.
And well the Hogs should have
been frustrated. With a Southwest
Conference championship looming
in their future, the Razorbacks one
dimensional wishbone attack pro
duced all of 45 yards through the
first 44 minutes of the game.
Although the Aggies’ offensive at
tack was less than spectacular, it pro
vided all the points A&M needed to
improve it’s overall record to 7-2, 4-1
in the SWC. The Hogs ended their
SWC schedule with 5-2 mark, 7-3
overall.
