Page lOAThe Battalion/Friday, November 6,1987 Aggies (continued from page 8) calf isn’t worried that that will hurt the Aggies. “We’ll be one of the smaller teams in the league,” Metcalf said. “It doesn’t worry me. It just means we’re going to have to make up for altitude with atti tude. We’ll have to get some great effort out of the small guys. “There’ll be some guys who’ll be playing above our heads. But we’ve got some competitors and that’s where it all starts. “Rebounding could be a prob lem for us. We’re going to have to play bigger inside than we are. But on the other hand, our strength is the guard position. Starting guards and depth-wise. we’re in good shape.” Metcalf believes the SWC will continue to be a tough basketball conference. “This league is tough,” he said. “Arkansas has Top 10 talent. And Houston may have Top 10 ta lent.” “But by the time we get into conference, I think everything could fall into place and we could be competitive,” Metcalf said. “It’s important we stay healthy, happy and eligible. We just don’t have a lot of depth. But right now we’re undefeated.” “Just come check us out,” Mc Donald said to Aggie fans. “I think we’re going to be good.” McDonald (continued from page 8) -- nesse away from him. Also it takes other players time to get used to playing with him. Often his bad passes are passes to where they should be. If I start really getting out of hand with it, he (Metcalf) won’t tell every body, but he’ll tell me, ‘Let’s keep it in the system.’ ” our ense “You take a player out of New York City — he’ll play more basket ball in a summer than some of these guys will play in their lives. It takes a while for these guys to know enough to play without the bail and be where they’re supposed to be.” McDonald recognizes and appre ciates the freedom Metcalf gives him on the court. “They let me do my own thing,” he said. “That’s my style of playing. This summer when he wasn’t working on his jump shot, or “J”, “D- Mack The Playground King”, as he’s called in New York, was playing with other collegiate and pro players in summer tournaments. He played up to three games almost every day. ng y thing. There ain’t really no dele being played or none of that. I just go with the flow and do what I got to do.” T he would 1 “To me, the competition’s rough,” McDonald said. “Maybe it’s because it’s New York. I don’t know. “Up there when I’m playing in the summer, it’s basically unorganized. It’s not like school. In the summer Since he is the Aggies’ only re turning starter this season, McDon ald is being propelled into a lead ership position, just as he was his sophomore year at Westchester. “It feels good to me,” McDonald said about being a leader. “Now that Winston, Mike (Clifford) and Todd (Holloway) are gone and since I started for the NCAA team, I kind of felt like a lot of people would be looking up to me as a leader.” In A&M’s first round NCAA Tournament loss against Duke, Mc Donald didn’t have a typical aid game. It is one that to have back because the national; dience that watched it didn’t see true McDonald. One of the teas may have been that the game played with a new ball, he said Voi. 8"; “There was just something that game,” he said. "I wasn’tsai or nothing. I didn’t have thejiti They took the ball right out of box. I tried to adjust to get thebai. go my way, but the ball was slippery. I know I didn’t play game like I played in the (SK| tournament. I would have loved bring that game or take one of games from the tournament and it in that Duke game.” Auto Liability Insurance from 15 00 per month Texas State Low Cost Insurance 3202 S.
