Career choices 8
What do you u/ant to be when you grow up? Rich?
Happy? What... you say you don’t want to grow up?
Well, the fact of the matter is that most of us spend four
years in college hitting the books so that we can spend
the rest of our lives earning the bucks. With this in
mind, it is important to know where the jobs are and
how to get them.
Fields of the future 6
The experts say the jobs of the future will require more
skilled workers with more education. But the good
news is that if the predictions are true, more of these
jobs will be available, virtually closing the
unemployment gap.
Grammar graduates 10
Many believe that students who graduate with an
English degree, or any liberal arts degree, have no real
career options. But we live in a society that is
depending more and more on good communication
skills, say the experts, and English majors are holding
their own.
Aggienizing Answers 10
This week we hit the sidewalks to ask Aggies what they
think of their job opportunities. We asked, “Do you
think you’ll find a job?” Most of those surveyed are
optimistic about their futures, but are also doing
everything possible to make themselves more
marketable.
Album review 4
The songs on “That Total Age” by Nitzer Ebb, a West
German group, can be described as industrially
synthesized dance music. Tom says the sound is
original and diverse, and should appeal to fans of
heavy metal, hard rock and synthesizer pop. The only
problem with the album is a language barrier.
Movie review 4
Tom says “Surrender”, starring Sally Field and Michael
Cain, is nothing more than a mildly entertaining
comedy. Look inside to see why.
Dear Readers:
Are you beginning to wonder what you're
going to be doing with your life after college?
Are you beginning to worry about finding a job,
or feeling guilty for not even knowing what the
current job situation is?
Never fear, At Ease has decided to come to
the rescue and help you out by letting you
know what the current job market looks Hke.
Our main story talks about the jobs with the
highest starting salaries, about which fields are
“hot”and which fields are not, about what
factors you should consider when choosing
your first real job and about what perspective
employers look for when hiring college
graduates.
Next, we did some research and produced a
story on what to expect from the job market of
the future. This article will be especially helpful
to those who haven’t made any career
decisions yet, or those who haven’t even
chosen their majors.
Finally, in Aggienizing Answers we asked
students what they think diet chances are of
finding a job once they graduate. Most students
don’t seem too worried about landing
employment, although they agree that they
can’t be too picky when it comes to deciding on
a particular job. Also, we've included an
optimisticstory on the employment situation for
English majors, as it is rumored that liberal arts
graduates have such a diBcult time ending a
job.
One last note, dear readers. We are pleased
to say that we have had several submissions this
semester for our attention!! page, and we thank
you. But please don't stop! You don ’thave to
be a journalism major, or an English major or
an experienced writer. We’re simply interested
in giving you a chance to be published. So
don’t be shy, go ahead and submit your original
works of art. Wed love to see them.
