The infant girl, who weighs about 1 pound, will remain in state custody until she no longer needs critical medical care, said State District Judge Tom Rickhoff, who signed the order Monday. Hospital spokesman Terrie Car ter said the child was in critical con dition Tuesday at Santa Rosa Medi cal Center’s neonatal intensive care unit. The child was born Friday with a condition requiring a blood trans fusion to save her life. “I talked with the doctor in person to make sure it was life-threatening if she did not get the treatment,” Rickhoff said. He said the infant’s parents had refused to allow the transfusion on religious grounds. The court order allowing the transfusion gives the state custody for 10 days, at which time a hearing will be held.
