"Police Academy 4 —
Citizens on Patrol"
Directed by Jim Drake
Starring Steve
Guttenberg, Bubba
Smith, G.W. Bailey and
Bob Goldthwait
★
There is only one
reason to see “Police
Academy 4 — Citizens on
Patrol’' and that is Bob
Goldthwait.
It used to be a
Hollywood trend that if a
movie was good it would
spawn a sequel. That
trend has been broken by
the “Police Academy”
series. “Police Academy”
should never have been
released in the first place,
much less “Police
Academy 2 — Their First
Assignment” or “Police
Academy 3 — Back in
Training. ” Now there’s
“Police Academy 4 —
Citizens on Patrol, ” the
worst yet.
In the new movie, the
retiring police
commandant (George
Gaynes) wants to train
volunteers from
neighborhood watch
groups to be police
officers. A group of little
old ladies, high school
dropouts and screwballs
show up for training.
Capt. Flams (G.W.
Bailey) doesn’t like his
department being
muddled by the civilians
and tries to make the
program fail. Mahoney
(Steve Guttenberg) and
the rest of the officers
decide to help the civilians
make Harris look bad.
As in the first three
movies, the plot is simple
and the jokes are dumb.
The movie is predictable,
childish and silly. The only
saving grace is Bob
Goldthwait.
Goldthwait joined the
series in “Police Academy
2” as the leader of a
motorcycle gang. In
“Police Academy 3”
Goldthwait went straight
and joined the force.
Although most of his
scenes and lines are
stupid — e.g. a goldfish
eating and an attempt to
save a drowning victim —
he is able to pull them off
with his maniacal delivery.
It’s not what he says, it’s
how he says it.
Hopefully Goldthwait
will be absent when
“Police Academy 5” hits
the screen. He deserves a
movie that is fun to watch
even when he’s not on
the screen.

J Am V Get a grip. Redstone doesn’t have all that.
Il’i* ‘I H 3 ■ Redstone DOES have the lowest rent on
9 two bedroom apartments of any com
parable complex in town. And with an an
nual lease you save even more. Redstone
is less than a mile from campus, on the
shuttle bus route and near dozens of
shops, banks and restaurants. Redstone
has a volleyball-pool, new Jacuzzi with
sun deck, security patrol and on-site
maintenance.
No apartment complex gives you more
than Redstone. (Even if we don’t give you
a 27-story parking garage with valet
service.)
