Dear Readers:
As you probably have gathered after looking
at our cover, this week’s At Ease takes a
comprehensive look at fraternities and sororities
at A&M.
The Greek system is almost as controversial
as the Corps of Cadets at this University. Some
see fraternities and sororities as a major asset to
A&M’s growth, while others see them as a
major stumbling block. Some feel Greek
organizations promote growth and
individualism among their members, while
others see Greeks as self-serving rich kids who
have to fit into a predetermined mold and pay
for their friends.
But, like it or not, the Greeks have arrived.
Their colorful T-shirts and shoe-polished cars
can be seen all over campus, and their numbers
are growing. In this issue, we've tried to present
you with an objective story on the Greek system
at A&M.
One of the biggest criticisms heard from non-
Greek students is the extra expenses involved in
belonging to a sorority or fraternity. To that
end, we’ve answered the question, “How much
does it really cost to belong to a fraternity or
sorority?” We’ve also included an article on
non-Greek fraternities like APO and the Aggie
Men’s Club.
Regardless of your feelings toward the Greek
movement at A&M, we hope you find our
articles informative and helpful. If you have
strong feelings either way, let us hear from you.
Even if you don % let us know how we’re doing.
We’re always open to suggestions torn our
readers.
It's Greek to Me
Are you perplexed by the plethora of Greek letters that
appear around campus? Do you think that “rush” parties
are those that feature a rock band? If so, look inside for
the lowdown on the Greeks at A&M.
Alternative Fraternities
If the Greek life just isn’t your bag, non-Greek fraternities
are a viable alternative. At Ease takes a look at AFO and
a newer non-Greek group — the Aggie Men’s Club.
