The Texas A&M men’s basketball
team, coming off a live game losing
streak, got a 12-foot jump shot from
Darryl McDonald with four seconds
left to lift the Aggies to a 58-56 vic
tory over Texas Wednesday night in
front of 6,575 fans at the Frank Ir
win Special Events Center.
“If the opponent is in a man de
fense, we like Darryl to go one-on-
one,” A&M Coach Shelby Metcalf
said. “He is something special.”
Forward John Tre/.vant opened
the scoring for the Aggies at the
18:23 mark. And after a Keron
Craves bucket, the Aggies were oil
to a 4-0 start.
But Texas, led by Alex Broadway
and Patrick Fairs battled hack to give
Texas an 8-6 lead with 13:53 left in
the first half.
Winston Crite, who led all scorers
in the first halt with 13 points on 6 of
6 shooting, then hit a 3-point play at
the 13:44 mark to give A&M a 9-8
lead it would never relinquish iu the
first half.
At one point, the Aggies were able
to open an I 1-point lead at 29-18,
and the half ended at 35-27.
The Longhorns came out in the
second half with a tough man-to
man defense and held the Aggies
scoreless until the 14:21 mark, when
Mike Clifford got a tip-in to make
the score 37-31. Prior to that, both
teams had made eight trips down the
court without a basket.
