ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) —
Raynard Davis sank four free throws
in the final 22 seconds to give Texas
a 74-70 victory Sunday as the Long
horns handed defending national
champion Louisville its third straight
defeat in the Great Alaska Shootout.
The Longhorns won seventh
place with their clutch free-throw
shooting, scoring the last six points
of the game from the charity stripe.
Dennis Perryman made it 70-69
Louisville with 2:02 remaining after
Pervis Ellison fouled out. Travis May
tied it with 1:10 left. And Davis put
Texas ahead for good by making
both ends of the one-and-one with
22 seconds to go.
After second-ranked Louisville
threw the ball away with seven sec
onds left, Davis was fouled again.
Despite repeated time outs by Louis
ville, he canned two more free
throws with five seconds to go for
the final margin of victory.
The lead changed hands 14 times
in the first half with Texas milling^
away briefly to a 34-27 lead with
4:06 to go. But Louisville chipped
the lead to 36-35 by intermission.
The Longhorns again went ahead
by seven as 7-foot-1 George Muller
hit two layups and a dunk and Pat
rick Fairs hit two from outside in the
first four minutes.
But outside shooting by Tony
Kimbro and strong inside play by
Herbert Crook tied it at 50 with
13:21 left.
Louisville wasn’t able to pull
ahead until 7:58 when Muller fouled
out trying to contain Ellison, who
made two free throws to make it 59-
58.
No more than two points sepa
rated the teams until Davis’ final free
throws.
Fairs led the Longhorns in scoring
for the third game in a row, scoring
18 before fouling with 3:12 to go.
Mays had 15 and Davis 12.
Ellison finished with 23. Kimbro
had 15 and Crook 13, all in the sec
ond half.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleve
land Browns wasted no time putting
newly acquired placekicker Mark
Moseley on the spot.
Moseley, signed last Wednesday
to replace the injured Matt Bahr,
kicked a 29-yard field goal into a
brisk wind with 16 seconds left in
overtime Sunday to give Cleveland a
13-10 victory over the Houston Oil
ers.
Cleveland cornerback Frank Min-
nifield intercepted Houston’s
backup quarterback, Oliver Luck,
twice in overtime, returning the sec
ond one 20 yards to help set up Mo
seley’s game-winner.
Moseley kicked into the open end
of Cleveland Stadium, with the wind
whipping in off adjacent Lake Erie.
The wind was gusting up to 35 miles
per hour.
“I was very conscious of the
wind,” Moseley said. “I just wanted
to get it through there before the
wind had a chance to do anything
with it.”
The Browns, 9-4, had signed Mo
seley on Wednesday to replace Bahr,
who was sidelined for the season by a
knee injury last week.
Minnifield returned the intercep
tion 20 yards to the Houston 37, and
Cleveland kept the winning drive al
ive when quarterback Bernie Kosar
hit Brian Brennan with a 7-yard pass
on fourth-and-3 from the 30.
Luck replaced injured Warren
Moon late in the fourth quarter and
drove the Oilers 73 yards in 11 plays,
tying the game 10-10 on an 11-yard
pass to rookie fullback Ray Wallace
with 50 seconds to play in regula
tion.
Cleveland came back to lead 10-3
midway through the fourth quarter
on a 33-yard touchdown pass play
from Kosar to Brennan and a 23-
yard field goal by Moseley.
Luck, however, completed seven
of eight passes for 65 yards on the
Oilers’ final drive of regulation time,
tying it on the swing pass to Wallace
at the left sideline.
Moon, who had thrown four in
terceptions to bring his season total
to 26, left the game late in the fourth
Oilers' Rozier
sprains knee
CLEVELAND (AP) — Hous
ton Oilers running back Mike Ro
zier suffered a severely sprained
knee in the second quarter of
Sunday’s 13-10 overtime loss to
the Cleveland Browns and will
need surgery, said Coach Jerry
Glanville.
Rozier rushed for 26 yards on
seven carries and caught one pass
for 15 yards before injuring the
knee on a pass play with 7:58 to
play in the second quarter. He
was hurt as quarterback Warren
Moon was sacked for a 9-yard
loss.
“Rozier blew his knee,” Glan
ville said. “He’ll have surgery on
it tomorrow (today).”
Rozier is the Oilers’ leading
rusher with 662 yards on 199 car
ries this season, for an average of
3.3 yards per carry.
quarter because of a bruised right
thumb. The Oilers, 3-10, also lost
their leading rusher, Mike Rozier, to
a sprained knee in the second quar
ter.
Kevin Mack ran the ball 28 times
for 121 yards, his second straight
100-yard rushing performance, as
Cleveland won its second straight in
overtime. The Browns beat Pitts
burgh 37-31 on Kosar’s overtime
touchdown pass to Webster Slaugh
ter last Sunday.
Neither starting quarterback had
a good day. Kosar finished with 16
completions in 41 attempts for 172
yards with three interceptions.
Moon completed only five of 23 tries
for 68 yards, with four interceptions.
Luck was 11 of 14 for 106 yards,
with the two overtime interceptions.
