Tonight is one of those nights. The Association of Am ateur Astronomers (AAA) is sponsoring Community Star Night tonight, com plete with an assortment of telescopes and guides to the galaxies. The group will set up 6- 8- and 10-inch telescopes at the Southwood Athletic Complex in Southwood Valley for the star-gazing convenience of the local community. Members of the club will be on hand to point out various heavenly points of interest, and the city will get in on the act too, turning out the lights in the surrounding area to maximize would-be astro nomers’ viewing plea sures. Community Star Night is open to the public and will take place from dark until midnight. There is no charge for viewing, but donations are accepted by the club for maintenance of telescopes and other equipment. Laurie Hazen, vice president of the AAA, says that turnout for the quar terly event has ranged from around 30 visitors on a cloudy summer night to well over 2,000 when Halley’s Comet was in view. There are no guar antees on tonight’s weather (after all, this is College Station), but Hazen says Star Night will be rescheduled a week from today if viewing is not possible. by Karen Kroesche J.L Tr “An Evening of Sophisticated Jazz” featuring Kirk Whalum J.L rir Thursday, November 13,1986 8:00 P.M.
