"Deadly Friend"
Another horror film from Wes
Craven, the director of ‘ ‘A Night
mare on Elm Street. ” The film is
stupid, but not bad enough to be
fun. The basketball-fu sequence
is almost worth the price of
admission if you go to one of the
cheap matinee showings. Rated
R.
"Peggy Sue Got Married"
Kathleen Turner and Nicholas
Cage star in Francis Coppola’s
fantasy about a woman who gets
a chance to go back in time to
high school. This marvelous film
is not a "Back to the Future”
rip-off, but an intelligent and
touching story of a woman reex
amining her life. Rated PG-13.
"Aliens"
Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and
a troop of Space Marines go to a
strange planet to fight off carni
vorous aliens in a science fiction
thriller that keeps you on the
edge of your seat. This sequel is
more fun than the original.

"Crocodile Dundee"
Australian comedian Paul
Hogan is the famous trapper
Michael J. "Crocodile” Dundee
who is brought back to America
by a reporter (Linda Kozlowski).
Hogan brings an Australian fla
vor to the New York streets and
falls in love with Kozlowski. A bit
predictable, but lots of fun.
Rated PG.
"The Color of Money"
Tom Cruise is a cocky kid with a
talent for pool. Paul Newman is
a former pool hustler who de
cides he can make a lot of
money being Cruise’s manager.
Director Martin Scorsese is in
good form once again, as are
Newman and Cruise, in this
realistic portrait of street people.
The ending might be too ambi
guous for some viewers. Rated
R.
"Children of a Lesser God"
William Hurt, Marlee Matlin and
deaf. Matlin is a deaf woman
who works at the school. They
fall in love but have to overcome
the barrier of silence between
them. Hurt deserves an Oscar
for his performance in this su
perb film. Rated R.

"Tough Guys"
Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas
are two criminals who are re
leased from prison after 30
years. They get tired of trying to
be ordinary senior citizens and
decide to steal the same train
they were sent up the river for
robbing 30 years before. Lan
caster and Douglas are excel
lent, and are almost able to pull
the film out the stock cliches ab
out old folks. Charles Durning is
also pretty good as the sheriff
who caught Lancaster and
Douglas the first time and who is
out to get them again. The actors
are better than the screenplay
they are stuck with. Rated PG.
"Let's Get Harry"
Harry is being held hostage by
an evil country and our govern
ment refuses to take action so his
friends go off to rescue him.
When is the American public
going to get tired of these Ram-
boesque movies and demand
more good films like Blue Vel

"Trick or Treat"
Ozzy Osbourne s first movie.
Gene Simmons of KISS also

who gets tied up with interna

chance to go crazy, the film
would have been great instead
of just good. Flated FL
"Ran"
An overpowering version of
Shakespeare’s King Lear from
Japanese director Akira Kurosa
wa, the man who gave us
“Seven Samurai," “Rasho-
mon” and “Kagemusha.” The
battle sequences are majestic
and the cinematography is fan
tastic. "Ran” is back in town for
a limited engagement, so make
sure you get out to see it soon.
Rated R.
"The Boy Who Could Fly"
Jay Underwood plays an autistic
boy who likes to pretend he can
fly. Lucy Deakains is the girl who
tries to reach out to him and dis
covers he really can fly. The film
is too sickeningly sweet and
Spielbergish for the tastes of
everyone except the most sen
timental, and the actors are too
old to be believable in the roles
of junior high kids. Rated PG.
"Soul Man"
C. Thomas Howell and Rae
Dawn Chong in a comedy about
a white guy who becomes black
to get a minority scholarship to
Harvard Law School. It seems as
if the director was afraid of mak
ing a serious statement about
racism and tries to throw in a
joke when things start getting
uncomfortable for the viewer.
Some of the jokes are funny, but
most have been used before in
hundreds of college-kid movies.
James Earl Jones is fantastic in
his role as the professor. Rated
PG-13.

“Pinnochio” is Walt Disney’s

too cool! "Fantastic Planet” is an
animated film about a planet
