Starts today. “Aliens” (R) Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and a troop of Space Marines go to a strange planet to fight tons of slimy carnivorous aliens in this science fiction thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This sequel is more fun than the original. “That 9 s Life” (PG-13) Starts today. POST OAK III Post Oak Mall 764-0616 “Deadly Friend” (R) Another horror film from Wes Craven, the director of “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “The Hills Have Eyes” (Parts I and II), “Last House on the Left” and “Deadly Blessing.” Starts today. “Peggy Sue Got Married” (PG-13) Kathleen Turner in Francis Coppola’s fantasy about a woman who goes back in time to her high school days. This is not a rip-off of “Back to the Fu ture” but an intelligent exami nation of a woman who gets a chance to correct some mis takes. Nicolas Cage also stars. Starts today. “The Boy Who Could Fly” (PG) Starts today. PLAZA 3 226 Southwest Parkway 693-2457 “Crocodile Dundee” (PG) Australian comedian Paul Ho gan is the famous trapper Mi chael J. “Crocodile” Dundee who is brought back to America /VtovJe Scene by a reporter (Linda Kozlowski). Hogan brings an Australian flavor to the New York streets and falls in love with Kozlowski. A bit predicta ble but lots of fun. Top Gun (PG) Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis in a long commercial for the U.S. Armed Forces with a love story thrown in for good mea sure. The cinematography is great, especially if you like flying sequences. This movie has some of the best. “Extremities” (R) Farrah Fawcett takes revenge on a guy who sexually assaulted her. He got what he deserved, but the audience shouldn’t be made to suffer through it. Plas tic acting doesn’t help the dumb sceenplay. A delicate subject matter such as rape deserves a more intelligent treatment. MANOR EAST 3 Manor East Mall 823-8300 “Ruthless People” (R) Bette Midler and Danny DeVito in an updated version of an 0. Henry story. A couple of kid nappers make off with DeVito’s wife (Midler), only to find that DeVito doesn’t want her back, no matter what the price. The kidnappers steal Midler, but she steals the show. “Stand By Me” (R) Director Rob Reiner’s version of Stephen King’s novella “The Body. ” This is not another hor ror flick but a warm look at friendship, good times and growing up. One of the best screen adaptations of a King novel. “Tough Guys” (PG) Burt Lancaster and Kirk Doug las are two criminals who are re leased from prison after 30 years. They get tired of trying to be ordinary senior citizens and decide to steal the same train they were sent up the river for robbing 30 years before. Lan caster and Douglas are excel lent and are almost able to pull the film out of the stock cliches about old folks. Charles Burn ing is also pretty good as the sheriff who caught Lancaster and Douglas the first time and who is out to get them again. The actors are much better than the screenplay they were stuck with. AGGIE CINEMA/ CEPHEID VARIABLE Rudder Theatre Complex 845-1234 Friday and Saturday “Tootsie” (PG) Dustin Hoffman is an out-of- work actor who lands the fe male lead in a daytime soap op era. He becomes extremely popular in his role and falls in love with Jessica Lange, one of the actresses on the show, but no one except his roommate (Bill Murray) knows that he is really a man. Jessica Lange won an Oscar for her role in this wonderfully funny and touching film. Friday and Saturday Midnight “After Hours” (PG) Boy meets girl. Boys goes to see girl. Boy upsets girl. Girl kills herself. Boy has a helluva a time trying to get things straight so that he can go back home and get to sleep. This movie, di rected by Martin Scorsese and starring Griffen Dunne, Ro- sanne Arquette, Teri Garr and Cheech and Chong, is loaded with dark humor and satire. Strange but good. Tuesday “Blow Up” (PG) Filmed in the mid-’60s, “Blow Up” was Italian director Miche langelo Antonioni’s first English movie. A photographer thinks he has captured evidence of a murder in one of his pictures. He enlarges the picture to show the dead body but the picture becomes grainer with each en largement. The ambiguity of the picture and the fact that he can’t find a body make him wonder whether there was a murder. The story takes place in the pop environment and cultural back ground of the “in crowd” dur ing the swinging ’60s. Starring David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave. Watch Jimmy Page ‘smash his guitar during the Yardbirds’ concert in the film. Wednesday “The King and I” (PG) Yul Brenner is the King of Siam. Debra Kerr is the woman hired to take care of his children in this classic musical. Thursday “Star Wars” (PG) The original. George Lucas’ epic space fantasy with Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher and Har rison Ford. Great special effects, cute robots, lots of fun for the whole family. SCHULMAN 6 2002 E. 29th 775-2463 “Armed and Dangerous” (PG) SCTVers John Candy and Eu gene Levy play a couple of po licemen who get into a lot of trouble with crooks and cops. “Nothing in Common” (PG) Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason in a bittersweet comedy about a successful businessman and his attempts to become closer to his father. “Back to School” (R) Rodney Dangerfield in a com edy about an old guy who be comes big man on campus. Dangerfield’s performance of “Twist and Shout” is a classic. “Flight of the Navigator” (PG) A Walt Disney science fiction adventure. “Link” (R) A horror flick about monkeys that go crazy. “Karate Kid II” (PG) Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita star in this sequel that takes them to Japan and yet another karate tournament.
