The festival, which will be held Friday through Sunday in Cen tral Park, will include perfor mances by Czech and German bands, games for children, a mer chants’ display and a wide variety of food and beverages. The event begins at 6 p.m. Fri day and closes at midnight. It re opens Saturday at 11 a.m. and closes at midnight. A “Volks” march will leave Anderson Park at noon Saturday. In this event — which is open to the public —con testants will march to Central Park to the tune of German beer drinking music, said Susan O’Connor, program supervisor of the festival. On Sunday, the festival will last from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission each day is $1. Chil dren under six can get in free. O’Connor said she expects from 7,000 to 7,500 people at the festival if the weather is good. Last year about 5,000 people at tended, but in 1984 rain caused a smaller turnout, she said. This year the festival is offer ing activities such as arts and crafts, displays of mostly local art ists, palm reading, belly dancing, body building and romantic car riage rides through the park. The festival also offers a wide variety of foods such as fajitas, gumbo, baked goods, German food and, of course, lots of beer. By Mike Sullivan Staff Writer The restaurants listed below were inspected Sept. 30 through Tuesday by the Brazos County Health Department. The infor mation is based on food service establishment reports. SCORED 95 OR ABOVE: • K-Bob’s at 809 E. University Dr. in College Station was in spected by Mike Lester. Score — 96. Two points were deducted on the report because some food items were on a freezer floor. Two one-point violations were cited in the report because a hole in a wall needed repairing and a pitcher of sugar needed to be cov ered and labeled. SCORED BETWEEN 85 AND 90: Traditions at 701 E. University Dr. in College Station was in spected by Mike Lester. Score — 88. Four points were deducted on the report because a rear door was not self-closing. Two two- point violations were cited in the report because some food items were left uncovered and some pa per towels were needed at a kitchen hand sink. Four one-point deductions were made in the report for a leak in a drip drain, some unclean floor drain grates and some drawers that needed organizing and cleaning. SCORED BETWEEN 80 AND 85: Chimney Flill Bowling Center at 701 University in College Sta tion was inspected by Mike Les ter. Score — 84. Five points were subtracted on the report because toxic items were stored next to food items. Four more points were deducted from the report because a hand sink was inaccessi ble. Two two-point subtractions were made in the report because no paper towels were at a hand sink and some food items were left uncovered in a storeroom. Three one-point deductions were made in the report because some floors needed cleaning, some containers weren’t sealed and a cooler needed cleaning. El Mexico Lindo at 1807 Highway 21 West in Bryan was inspected by David Pickens. The report said the food services per mit was suspended as of Sept. 29 because the building had no run ning water. The report said the food services permit might be re newed when water service is re stored to the building. David Jefferson, a registered sanitarian at the department, says res taurants with scores of 95 or above generally have excellent operations and facilities. Jefferson says restaurants with scores in the 70s or low 80s usually have serious violations on the health report. Scores can be misleading, Jefferson says, because restaurants can achieve the same score by having several major violations or an abun dance of minor violations. He says the major violations might close the restaurant down while some minor violations can be corrected during the inspection. Jefferson says the department might close a restaurant if: the score is below 60, the personnel has infectious diseases, the restaurant lacks adequate refrigeration, a sewage backup exists in the building, the res taurant has a complete lack of sanitization for the food equipment. Point deductions, or violations, on the report range from one point (minor violation) to five points (major violation). The department in spects each restaurant about every six months. Sometimes a follow-up inspection must be made, usually within 10 days. Jefferson says a restaurant might require a follow-up inspection if it has a four- or five-point violation that cannot be corrected while the inspector is still there, or if there are numerous small violations. Inspectors at the department are registered sanitarians. TDC contempt motion filed over desegration orders DALLAS (AP) — State officials angrily criticized a U.S. Justice De partment charge that the Texas De partment of Corrections dragged its feet on a deadline to outline steps taken to integrate jobs and housing at its Huntsville complex. The Justice Department filed a contempt motion Tuesday asking a Houston judge to fine the TDC $1,000 a day until officials submit data on racial desegregation within the prison system. But state attorneys and officials contend the motion was politically motivated and was an attempt to em barrass Democratic officeholders be fore the gubernatorial election. The Justice Department said the state failed to meet a 60-day require ment to file a detailed explanatory memorandum with Judge Lynn Hughes in Houston.
