‘Collage’
October 15, 8 p.m.
“Collage” is the unique concert opening the 1986-87 season of the Brazos
Valley Symphony Orchestra, “Sounds of the Valley”.
“Collage” features the Orchestra sections seated throughout Rudder
Auditorium at Texas A&M—on stage, in the orchestra pit, the balcony, and
the main floor. Texas A&M’s Singing Cadets and Century Singers will join
the Orchestra in this concert “in the round”.
The individual sections will play a series of contrasting pieces without inter
ruption or applause. The last note of one musical arrangement will be the
first note of the next. Soloists will be featured in the woodwinds, strings,
percussion and brass sections. “Collage” culminates in a rousing finale by
the entire orchestra on stage.

Reports say
cuffs used
in UT hazing
AUSTIN (AP) — A University of
Texas fraternity pledge, who died
after drinking about 18 ounces of
rum, had been handcuffed and told
to drink the night before he was
found dead in his dormitory room, it
was reported Tuesday.
Quoting unnamed sources, the
Austin American-Statesman said
Mark Seeberger, 18, had one hand
cuffed to the roof of a van during
the “ride” with two other pledges
and was ordered to drink.
The Travis County medical exam
iner has ruled that Seeberger, found
in his room on Sept. 18, died of alco
hol poisoning.
A ride is what -some fraternities
call the practice of taking pledges far
from home and letting them out, of
ten while intoxicated, to make their
way back. UT officials say the prac
tice is considered hazing.
An affidavit requesting a search
warrant for the van that carried See
berger and the others cited a
statement to police by another Phi
Kappa Psi pledge.
The statement confirmed that
three pledges, including Seeberger,
were handcuffed in the van on the
night of Sept. 17.
Five liquor bottles were found in
the van after District Judge Robert
D. Jones issued a search warrant last
week, the American-Statesman re
ported.
Court records also said no one in
the van — the pledges, three regular
fraternity members and a girlfriend
of one member — had reached the
legal drinking age of 21.
2 arrested
after murder
at Sour Lake
SOUR LAKE (AP) — Authorities
using tracking dogs from Huntsville
Tuesday captured two men sus
pected of fatally shooting a man who
caught them burglarizing his home
and wounding two others, authori
ties said.
Liberty County officials said a res
ident of Sour Lake in Hardin
county, a town about 15 miles west
of Beaumont, returned home Mon
day night with his brother and a
friend and found two men inside his
home at about 9 p.m.
The owner of the home was shot
and killed. Llis brother and the
friend were also shot.
The brother was treated and re
leased and the other man was listed
in fair condition at a local hospital,
said a dispatcher who would not give
his name.
Authorities found a truck belong
ing to the dead man between Baston
and Sour Lake and arrested one of
the suspects.
The second suspect was arrested
shortly after midnight about four
miles west of Sour Lake, he said.
Both men were being held with
out bond in the Liberty County Jail
on charges of capital murder, he
said.
