James Hebert, president of Professional Security Services, says that his firm was hired by the College of Engineering to con duct tne inspections until the nec essary lock changes are com pleted. University officials could make no estimate how long the lock changes will take. Wiatt made it clear to Hebert Thursday that* the guards could only visually inspect belongings, and could not legally touch be longings or detain anyone. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The bil lionaire Hunt brothers, fighting to keep 23 banks from foreclosing on $1.5 billion of their property, lost a round in the battle Thursday when a federal appeals court moved their bankruptcy cases to Dallas. The Hunts had wanted to keep Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in New Orleans, where tney filed pe titions on Aug 29. But the banks’ at torneys argued to the 5th U.S. Cir cuit Court of Appeals that the Hunts were trying to complicate an already complicated case. “The game isn’t to win,” said at torney Melvyn Cantor, representing Manufacturers Hanover Trust. “The game is to spread things out.” In ruling that the Hunts must transfer the Chapter 11 case to Dal las, the 5th Circuit upheld an earlier order by U.S. District Judge Bare foot Sanders of Dallas. The Hunts attended the Thurs day morning hearing and left imme diately thereafter for Dallas without commenting. The ruling marked the latest skir mish in a complicated series of fi nancial and legal battles pitting Wil liam Herbert Hunt, Nelson Bunker Hunt and Lamar Hunt — three sons of the late oil tycoon H.L. Hunt — against the 23 banks. The banks are apparently ready to foreclose on about $1.5 billion of property owned by the Hunt broth ers. The Hunts, meanwhile, have sued the banks for $14 billion, claiming the banks conspired to drive them out of business. To guard against foreclosure, three of the Hunts’ business interests — Placid Oil, a Placid subsidiary and a personal trust of William Herbert Hunt — filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code. They filed in New Orleans, but Sanders said that violated an earlier ruling he is sued ordering lawyers involved in the Hunt legal battles to file any re lated suits in Dallas. The Hunts argued that most of the assets of Placid Oil are in Loui siana. \aggi BIEVIERLY HILLS # /?4y 7//^ Beverly Hills Cop is an entertaining blend of wild comedy, high-energy action, and nail-bitihg suspense that's not to be missed Richard Schickel Time "Hard to resist.
