Jets 26-14 last December in the AFC
ild-card game and then marched to
e Super Bowl where they lost to
icago, are 2-0 this season and
lone atop the division. They have
lowed just nine points and no
uchdowns in the two games.
[The Jets, who lost star running
,ck Freeman McNeil to a dislocated
right elbow in the second quarter,
are 1-1. Club officials said McNeil
will tie out from four to six weeks.
Collins was wide open for a six-
rd touchdown toss from quar-
rback Tony Eason in the first quar
ter. He and James combined to
clinch the victory at 6:25 of the third
period on a gutsy fourth-and-1 call
from the New York 10.
The Patriots called a timeout be
fore Eason pitched to James, who
was sweeping to the right. James
stopped and lofted a pass over two
defenders to the uncovered Collins
at the goal line.
Tony Franklin added a 45-yard
field goal at the end of the third
quarter and a 42-yarder with 3:12
remaining.
The Jets got two field goals from
Pat Leahy, who has hit on a club-re
cord 14 consecutive attempts. Leahy
hit from 33 and 47 yards.
Things did not start well for the
Patriots as Eason fumbled on the
third play from scrimmage.
Dropping back at his own 37, he
was hit by nose tackle Joe Klecko and
the ball bounced toward the New

England end zone. Linebacker
Lance Mehl fell on it at the 10.
But the Jets gave the ball back on
the next play when Patriots nose
tackle Toby Williams stripped full
back Tony Paige and end Brent Wil
liams recovered.
New England scored first on a
eight-play, 55-yard drive, culminat
ing with Eason’s pass to a wide-open
Collins in the left flat. New England
has thrown a touchdown pass in 27
straight games.
The first game official’s call to be
overruled after consultation with
television replays occurred in the
third quarter. New York’s A1 Toon
caught a pass at the right sideline
and was ruled out-of-bounds at the
Jets 45.
NFL supervisor of officials Art
McNally, who was in the press box,
overruled the call after a 3 Va-minute
delay as he watched ABC replays.
Twins slash
Rangers, 6-2
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Mark
Salas hit two home runs and drove in
four runs and Frank Viola beat
Texas for the seventh straight time
as the Minnesota Twins defeated the
Rangers 6-2 Thursday night.
Salas connected with the bases
empty in the first inning, then hit a
two-run homer in the third, giving
Minnesota a 4-1 lead. He singled in a
run in the fifth.
Viola, 14-11, gave up eight hits
and three walks over seven innings
and struck out a season high of 10
batters. George Frazier finished the
game.
Viola’s streak against Texas dates
back to June 10, 1983.
The Rangers have lost seven of 10
games and now trail California by 8
1-2 games in the American League
West.

Luv is Murray Schisgal’s ludricously absurd lampoon of love, loneliness, lost identity,
marriage, housekeeping, wife-swapping, existentialism, psychology, success, the sex
ual revolution, avant garde theatre and just about anything else you could imagine.
This deliciously funny comedy about “love,”—its rites and wrongs, its uses, misuses,
and abuses ran for 902 laugh-packed Braodway performances.
The critics called Luv: “A comic treasure!” “An evening of continuous laughter!”
“The funniest play in several seasons!”
