Financial difficulties that forced
MSC Town Hall to announce an end
to Broadway shows and big-name
concerts have been resolved, thanks
to a new contract with Pace Concerts
of Houston and a decision to use
promoters exclusively for program
ming concerts, according to MSC of
ficials.
Robert Arrowood, vice chairman
for the Broadway series, said the de
cision was a result of a low reserve
budget and date conflicts with the
MSC Organization for the Perform
ing Arts Society.
“We were afraid that if the shows
didn’t do well we wouldn’t be able to
recoup any losses,” Arrowood said.
Hall confirmed a deal to work with
the Houston concert promoters.
“The way it’s set up we will be as
suming no risks when we program
concerts through Pace,” Arrowood
said. “They assume all of the risk
and then we get a cut of any profits."

He said that now all of the money
can be directed towards Broadway
and the smaller series.
At present, Pace has only signed
to promote the Sept. 21 Huey Lewis
concert.
But Paige Mann, vice chairman of
concerts, said all concerts this year
will be promoter shows.
“If not with Pace, then (we’ll go)
through other promoters," Mann
said. “Regardless of the promoter we
work with they will still take the fi

Space station
work transfer
called off
SPACE CENTER, Houston (AP)
— The Johnson Space Center will
regain control of the interior el
ements of the crew compartment of
America’s space station under an
agreement now being negotiated be
tween managers of two NASA cen
ters, a space agency spokesperson
said Tuesday.
The spokesperson, Mark Hess,
made the comments to clarify a
statement made earlier Tuesday by
Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas.
The senator said that the Texas
center would have “full control of
the habitation module,” but Hess
said the development of the hull and
exterior of the module would still be
managed by the Marshall Space
Flight Center in Alabama.
Hess emphasized that work man
agement assignments for the space
station are still tentative and that
agreement still has not been af
firmed by both centers nor by the
National Space and Aeronautics Ad
ministration headquarters.
Hess said that, in effect, the plan
merely would return to Johnson a
work assignment that had been
taken away under a previous revi-
sion of the space station plan.
Under the plan, Hess said that
Marshall would oversee construction
of the external components.
