Mark White — at his request — an appointment to the Texas Optome try Board. Sen. John Leedom, R-Dallas, said if White had not withdrawn the ap pointment of Kenneth Schorr of Dallas, he would have asked his col leagues to reject the nomination as a courtesy to Leedom. “I don’t even know the gen tleman,” Leedom said. But he said the Texas Optometric Association had taken a “hard position” against Schorr and he was abiding by the as sociation’s wishes. Godinez, board chairman, was one of eight board appointees who have defended themselves in recent weeks from claims by legislators and others that they were doing a poor job policing the medical profession. Godinez said on Aug. 19, when he appeared before the Senate Nomi nations Committee, that the 15- member board had handled 669 complaints in 1985 and 271 discipli nary actions were taken.
