Dan Petry, 2-2, gave up seven hits
in eight innings for his first victory
since April 14. Guzman, a rookie,

Detroit scored in the second in
ning on a double by Pat Sheridan
and a single by Dave Collins, and
Texas tied it in the third on Don
Slaught’s double and a single by
Scott Fletcher.
The start of the game was delayed
40 minutes by rain, and the Tigers
broke it open in the fourth following
another 25-minute rain delay. Guz

halted play.
After that delay, Larry Herndon
walked and scored when Collins fol

singled home Collins, and an error
by third baseman Steve Buechele
put runners at first and third.
Darrell Evans hit an RBI single
and Parrish then homered into the
right-field seats for a 7-1 lead.
Parrish’s second homer, to left
field, came in the eighth.
The Rangers scored a run in the
bottom of the fourth on Pete Inca-

the year. Texas added another run
in the seventh on Darrell Porter’s
RBI single.
Hurst, 2-2, gave up seven singles
in the first five innings, and a leadoff
double in the ninth by Brian Down

tobelli ran the team in Piniella’s ab
sence. Chicago lost for the sixth time
in its last seven games.
