Hinson said KAMU-TV, Texas A&M’s public television station, taped the April 1 program and ob tained a grant from the Southern Education Communications Associa tion to edit the program and pre pare it for distribution. Up to 102 Public Broadcasting Service stations that are members of SECA will have the option to televise the program, Hinson said. He said the two-hour program with former presidents Jimmy Car ter and Gerald Ford, historian Dr. Stephen Ambrose and moderator George Will has been edited into a one-hour show. In other action, the council voted to rename MSC Career Devel opment as the MBA/Law Committee and to return the committee to its original purpose — bringing former students to A&M for MBA/Law Day to encourage students to consider business and law careers. Tim Fitzgibbon, new executive vice president for programs, ex plained the 1986-87 MSC program approval process and said the only major change is that administrative programs — retreats, workshops and conferences — must go through the process along with the commit tee programs. Warped Girl was 'mother' to drowned siblings HOUSTON (AP) — As soon as Eloisa Leija, 9, realized her five sisters and brother had been thrown into a muddy bayou Friday afternoon, she ran to nearby Houston police headquarters for help. People who know the girl are not sur prised by this display of responsibility. Eloisa is described by teachers as “wise in the ways of life, but not in academics.” Her mother Juana Maria Leija, 29, has been charged with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of her children, Judas Dimas, 6 and Juana Maria, 5. The others survived the tragedy. One teacher, who declined to be identified, said she visited the Leija home four or five con secutive evenings in March, but the parents were never at home. "The last time I went, Eloisa was caring for Ju das and the younger children who were out doors,” the teacher said. “Eloisa kept them out of the street. There was no food in the house. Eloisa holds that family together." Each day after school Eloisa waited for Judas, a first-grader, so both could cross a busy avenue together. “It was as if Eloisa was the mother.” the tea cher said. In the last few months, Eloisa has worked and hard and achieved good grades, hut sometimes she was taunted by other childrenbtoi tattered clothes. On Friday she stayed after schooli her favorite teacher, lingering as loni:: “If only I had known,” said the!e was not identified. “She likes to speK time with me as possible.
