DALLAS (AP) — Additional wind
shear sensors will be installed at Dal
las-Fort Worth International Air
port to provide early warning of
sudden wind speed changes, officials
say.
Wind shear is suspected as the
cause of the crash of Delta Air Lines
Flight 191 at DFW on Aug. 2. The
accident killed 137 people.
Installation of the additional sen
sors is one of the first legacies of that
crash. Federal Aviation Administra
tion head Donald D. Engen said
Monday.
Engen, in Dallas for a commercial
aviation conference, said the FAA
also plans to install a more sophisti
cated wind shear detection system —
Doppler radar — by 1988 or 1989.
Clarence R. Melugin Jr., adminis
trator of the FAA’s Southwest re
gion, said he does not know when
the new wind shear sensors will be
installed. He said the system proba
bly will be placed along the airport’s
approach path.
Officials have said the five sensors
DFW now has provide limited help
to approaching planes.
Experts believe the low-level alert
system could warn arriving and de
parting planes of the presence of
wind shear, a rapid shift in wind
speed and direction that can force
planes flying at low altitude into the
ground.
Officials have said Flight 191 ap
parently encountered a microburst,
the most severe form of wind shear,
during its approach to the airport
and crashed at>out a milG
runway.
Engen said the crash h

Group seeks woman’s land for lignite mine
NECHANITZ (AP) — Esther
Matejowsky says the Lower Colo
rado River Authority wants to take
only the best part of her family
homestead and use it for a lignite
strip mine.
She had held out for three years.
The LCRA can buy all her farm but
not just the best part of it.
“They are going to take the heart
out of this place,” Matejowsky said
Monday. “That’s where our petri
fied wood is. That’s where our dog
woods are. That’s where our beauti
ful trees are.”
Matejowsky, her son and three
daughters are among holdouts who
have not wanted the river authority
to use their land for the Cummins
Creek mine in Fayette County.
Officials said the river authority
wants about 32 of her 171 acres for a
pond connected to mining opera
tions across her back fence, accord
ing to original mine plans. The pond
would be on the northeast side of
her land.
LCRA general manager S. David
Freeman is reviewing the size of the
lignite strip mine and expects to
have his findings ready next month.
A cutback in the size of the mine
could mean the Matejowsky land
would not be needed.
The LCRA already
acres under lease andanok
acres purchased for lij

acres were in about 1
land.

Chiropractor
STOMACH TROUBLE
Because of the stomach’s central location in the body, it is richly supplied by the
body’s nervous system. Since all stomach functions are controlled by nerve impulses, it
can be deducted then, that the stomach can function no better then the nerve impulses it
receives. When “stomach trouble”, a vague term characterized by a variety of symptoms,
is present, the reason may be that the nerve impulse supply to it, or to a functionally-re
lated area, has been blocked. Such interference usually occurs in the spine from which
nerve trunks flow. In cases like these, a chiropractor may be able to help without resort
ing to drugs, antacid or syrups.
Please do not ignore the early warning signs: Headache, stiffness in neck/back, painful
joints, leg/arm pain, numbness, back/neck pain, shoulder pain, numbness in hands/feet.
Early treatment of these signs will minimize your need for additional follow-up visits.
Complimentary consultation and spinal evaluation will be given thru the end of the
month. Previous patients of chiropractic who feel the necessity for “only” a spinal adjust
ment are welcome.
Should you feel a need for an appointment please call 696-2100.
Hint: Chiropractic practices can be found in every state, and in many other countries.
