Celtics bow to Mavs for first time, 116-115

Rolando Blackman’s two free
throws with eight seconds left iced
the game for Dallas.
Blackman, who had 32 points for
the Mavs, was fouled and made two
free throws. After a timeout, Bird
hit a layup with four seconds left,
but Dallas avoided a foul and the
clock ran out on the Celtics.
Dallas played the game without
high-scoring Mark Aguirre, but Da
vis scored 18 points and Sam Perkins
added 24 to pick up the scoring
slack.

ling had a double and a single, driv
ing in three runs Monday, as the
Houston Astros beat the Detroit Ti
gers 6-2 in a Grapefruit League ex
hibition game.
The Astros scored five of their
runs off Detroit starter Jack Morris
(1-1), who was 16-11 for the Tigers
last year. Left-handed rookie Jim

In the Astros second, Mark Bailey
walked, Tony Walker singled and
both rode home on a double to the
right field corner by Walling. A two-

third, went to second on Terry
Puhl’s bunt single and scored on a
single by Bailey.
Puhl scored on a grounder by
Walker and the Astros led 5-0.
John Mizerock doubled in the
eighth and scored on Walling’s sin
gle for the final Houston run.
Detroit scored both its runs in the
fifth off rookie Rob Mallicoat. Scott
Earl started the inning with a leadoff
homer.
Doug Flynn doubled, Nelson Sim
mons walked and Lance Parrish hit a
two-out single to score Flynn.
Former Tiger reliever Aurelio Lo
pez, who worked the seventh and
eighth innings against Detroit, got a
rousing ovation from the partisan
crowd of 4,580 in Marchant Sta
dium.
Lopez allowed one single and
struck out one.
