Sherrill hinted he remains up set at remarks made several years ago when Paterno said he wasn’t ready to retire from his head coaching job at Penn State be cause that would leave college football in the hands of “the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sher rills.” Paterno apologized to Switzer before the Jan. 1 Orange Bowl, when Oklahoma defeated Penn State to win the national championship. Paterno said he made the re mark at what was supposed to be an off-the-record gathering with reporters and that he did not know Switzer at the time. Sherrill, speaking Sunday at the 50th annual Dapper Dan sports banquet in Pittsburgh, said he has never received an apology from Paterno. “Some years ago, Joe Paterno made a statement about the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrills of college football,” Sherrill said. “Barry Switzer got a letter of apology this year. I guess I have to beat Penn State in a bowl game to get my letter.” Lady Ags crush Frogs, 97-79 Jordan highlights A8cM attack with 19 points FORT WORTH — The Texas A&M women’s bas ketball team improved its chances for a Southwest Conference postseason tournament bid with a 97-79 win over TCU at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Tuesday night.
