There were hands waved and voices raised in protest. And despite good arguments on both sides, the majority decided against paying col lege athletes on scholarship. A body count as students left after the de bate showed a score of 83 in favor and 153 against the resolution. The Texas A&M Debate Society sponsored the debate. Brett Shine, a former student body president candidate, argued against the resolution. Kyle Barring ton, a junior speech communications major, arguect in favor of the resolu tion. Barrington began the opening re marks and said that without some kind of payment system, college ath letics might crumble. He cited a study that said almost 60 percent of the college athletic programs are in danger of collapsing.
