Although it wasn’t easy, the No. 16 Aggies defeated the Cardinals 12- 15, 15-12, 15-12, 15-2. It wasn’t quite as impressive .as A&M’s win over LU last Friday night, though. In front of a noisy and wild Mc Donald Gym crowd, the Cards came out smoking. Behind the missiles shot down by Veronica Carter and Ruby Ran dolph, Lamar took a 6-1 lead in the match’s first game. “I knew it was going to be tough,” Condon said. “To tell you the truth, I expected it to go five games. This is always a hard place to play.” A few calls the Aggies didn’t like and the temperature was “heating up.” “It was hard not only playing La mar, but we had to play the referees too,” said Condon, who got off the bench several times to complain dur ing the first two games. “One referee didn’t see Lamar in the net even once, but she saw us a bunch.” The final in the first game was 15- 12 Lamar, but the Aggies were hot and furious. Both teams began ex changing words across the net. “I can’t say what 1 said,” said A&M middle blocker Sherri Brinkman. “I will say she started it though. That always makes it a little more fun.” Af ter that it was all A&M. “We got more and more confident as the match went on,” Condonsaii “We were tentative and nervoiii) the beginning, but thenweslatitj doing things right. Whenitwenn the fourth game, I knew thereg no way w e would lose that one Spence and the rest of the were totally pleased with one asptt of their game — serving. “Overall, we did pretty good' Spence said. “We really cutdownm, our missed serves, which is real nice to see.” The Aggies had only three sen ing errors, compared to Lamar’slI, Nick says Be There! Fullback Anthony Toney will see only limited action due to a hyperex- tended knee. Moore will have to deal with a growing list of injuries and feelings that his team may not be as good as he thought it was, following three season-opening victories. “We’ve got a lot of people hurt, but none of them are the types of in juries that require surgery,” Moore said. “It’s a day-to-day sort of thing and we probably won’t know who is going to be ready until we line up next Saturday. “As for us losing our confidence, if we were 0-4 that would be a differ ent story, but we’re 3-1 and that’s as good as we’ve been around here at this point in the season, since I’ve been here. We’re just embarrassed by what happened against Baylor. “As a matter of fact, we haven’t just written the A&M game off yet.” If the Red Raiders had, they would have written off three of their eleven victories in the past three years. A Sherrill-coached A&M team has never beaten T ech. “There’s not that much I can do about that,” Sherrill said, “I’m not out there playing in the game.” Moore agreed. “I really don’t think we prepare any differently against A&M than we do for anybody else," he said. *T don’t know that we get any more up for A&M than we do for Baylor and that’s what scares me. “T his A&M team is not even in the same category with the other A&M teams we’ve played against, since I’ve been here and we were fortunate to beat those others be cause they were good. “What impresses me about this (A&M) team is (its) ability to do so many things. They don’t have weaknesses." Sherrill said, “Right now, Ke'n able to do some things with outif. fensive line because we have running backs.
