I It’s the end of another week of
classes. Bob has planned a big night
out. Nine thirty rolls around and he
grabs his keys and wallet. He’s ready
to go. As Bob goes to pick up his
date, he realizes he has no cash and
it's too late to cash a check at the Me
morial Student Center.
I Many students have found them
selves in similar situations before —
not knowing where to cash their per
sonal or payroll checks.
■ What some students don’t know is
that many local grocery stores will
cash those checks.
All stores require a local address
and valid Texas drivers license, but
check limits and service charges vary
from store to store.
Kroger cashes local and out-of-
town personal checks for up to $20
above the purchase total or at the
courtesy booth for a 25-cent fee.
However, the amount cashed in
creases to $50 if the person has a
Kroger courtesy card. Kroger’s also
has a list of approved local payroll
checks that it will cash.
At Winn Dixie, students can cash
local and out-of-town personal
checks up to $25 with no fee and $50
with a 50-cent fee. Approved payroll
checks up to $25 will be cashed with
out a charge. A service charge is
added to those checks more than
$25. The amount of the charge de
pends on the size of the check.
Safeway also cashes local And out-
of-town personal checks for up to
$30 with a 50-cent fee. Approved
payroll checks are cashed with a
service charge.
Skaggs Alpha Beta will only cash
local checks for up to $20 more than
the purchase.
Student Senate to hear bill urging
replacement of lost ticket books
By FRANK SMITH

■ The Texas A&M Student Senate
tonight will hear the first reading of
a bill urging the Athletic Depart
ment to provide free replacement of
lost or stolen sports ticket books for
students.
■ Another bill to be introduced rec
ommends that Sbisa Dining Hall be
supplied either with more locker
R)aces or video monitors to help pre
vent theft of students’ backpacks or
other personal belongings while din
ing.
■ The Senate also will hear the in-
itroduction of a bill calling for resi
dents of Gainer Hall (Dorm 5) to be
included in the constituency of
Krueger, Briggs and Spence halls
until the Senate conducts its annual
re-apportionment next spring.
Gainer, which before this semes
ter housed only members of the
Corps of Cadets, now has some fe
male non-cadet residents.
Laurie Johnson, speaker of the
Senate, said the bill is intended to
give the new Gainer residents area
representation they currently lack.
“As it was before, they would have
been represented by one of the
Corps senators,” Johnson said.
In other business, six vacant Sen
ate seats will be filled tonight.
Johnson said interviews for the
vacancies were conducted Monday
night. The open positions include
two seats for Off Campus Ward III
and one seat for each of the follow
ing: geosciences at-large, Mosher-
Underwood halls. Off Campus
Ward II and Ward IV.
Johnson said 14 applicants inter
viewed for the Ward II position.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm that
hasn’t been there in the past,” she
said. “We had to turn down some
sharp people.”
She also said she invited Dr. Jaan
Laane, speaker of the Faculty Sen
ate, to speak at tonight’s meeting.
“I just felt it was good to have the
speaker meet the new Senate,” John
son said. “I wanted to open up that
link between our two legislative bod
ies.”
The Senate meeting will begin at
7:30 p.m. in 204 Harrington Class
room Building.
At 21, Roberta Morin was
a crew member at Burger King.
Today at 27, she’s run three restaurants
and trained hundreds of managers.
After graduating from an eastern college,
Roberta moved out west — to San Diego
where she took a job as a crew member at
Burger King. And started moving up the
ladder of success two rungs at a time.
"A year later, I was an assistant man
ager,” says Roberta, "And the year after that, I
was in charge of 70 employees and a $1.8
million operation. It was a heavy responsibil
ity, but exhilarating, too. I feel there’s so much
more to learn. For me, it’s only the beginning.”
Roberta managed two other restaurants
before moving on to her current
position as Management Training
Specialist. And as she says, it’s only
the beginning.
At Burger King, our managers
and our training specialists are the
pride and joy of our organization.
They are men and women from all
BURGER
KING
walks of life with one thing in common. The
desire to excel, to be the best at what
they do.
So we do our best to help them. We give
them the sophisticated training they need —
along with the total support of a great busi
ness management team. We pay for their
training. We pay for their talent. We pay for
everything they need to succeed — except the
one thing that money can’t buy.
The will to win.
Burger King Corporation will be holding
interviews on campus, Friday,
September 27th. If you have the
ambition and ability, please stop by
the Placement Center to schedule
your interview prior to that date.
And start getting all you need to suc
ceed. Equal Oppormnity Employer
M/F/H.
Get all you need to succeed.
Padre Cafe has
a margarita special that
blows the competition
away.
$|.25
EVERYDAY
Aggies’ favorite drink is the margarita and their favorite place is the
Padre Cafe. Now we’ve brought the two together with the best
special in town. Get ice cold margaritas, frozen or on the rocks for
$1.25. All day. Every day. Our margaritas are made with Tequilla
Sauza products, not that cheap “border town” tequilla the
competition uses. And while you’re at the Padre Cafe, try some
quesadillas or an order of our world class fajitas. We were making
them first and we still make them best.
