Rush Chairman 764-8964 Waldo by Kevin Thomos Two ex-employees indicted for stealing Tl trade secrets Associated Press DALLAS — A four-month inves tigation into allegations of stolen trade secrets led to the indictments of two former computer engineers at Texas Instruments, a prosecutor said. Assistant Dallas County District Attorney Dick Zadina said the felony charges, issued Monday, do not end an investigation that began after a confidential informant alerted Texas Instruments officials to the al leged theft of millions of dollars’ worth of computer programs. Attorneys for the two men, Thomas B. Schalk and Robert G. Leonard, said they would attempt to show that their clients did not steal any trade secrets from their former employer. A conviction on the third-degree felony charge carries a prison of up to 10 years and a $5,000 fine. “We are not finished with the in vestigation because we have more evidence that could lead to other in dictments,” Zadina, who directs the specialized crime division, said. District Attorney Henry Wade or dered an investigation, which in cluded a search of Voice Control Systems’ Dallas office, officials said. The two men were employed by Texas Instruments in the field of voice-controlled computer pro grams, but resigned to go to work for another company. Voice Control Systems Inc. During a 26-hour raid in May at Voice Control Systems’ office in north Dallas, programs and docu ments allegedly belonging to Texas Instruments were seized, authorities said. Schalk, 34, the director of techno logical development at Voice Con trol Systems, is accused of stealing five computer programs involving voice-recognition research. Leonard, 41, is accused of stealing 27 computer programs on Feb. 18 involving voice synthesis and voice recognition research. Those programs were developet by Texas Instruments from Mt 1981 to October 1984, prosecutk records show. Leonard left Texas Instrume® in February and is a manager i Voice Control Systems. Governor invites Prince Charles to visit Texas to honor Ross Perol Associated Press AUSTIN — Britain’s Prince Charles is coming to Texas in February to honor the state and one of its best-known residents. Gov. Mark White announced Wednesday. The British consulate in Hous ton confirmed plans for the prince to visit Dallas and perhaps other Texas cities Feb. 17-21. “The governor invited him,” said Linda Kelly, assistant infor mation officer for the consulate. Princess Diana will not make the trip, she said. The only definite stop on the trip is Dallas, where the heir to the British throne will present the Winston Churchill Award to H. Ross Perot. The award, given by the United States Winston Churchill Foundation, is given to people of “exceptional accomplishment,” according to a foundation re lease. Perot, a billionaire business man, is the first person from the business world to get the award. The two previous recipients were American statesman W. Averill Harriman and British Prime Min ister Margaret Thatcher. "Perot was selected for the award because he has demon strated the imagination, boldness and vigor which characterized Churchill," said John Loeb Jr., former U.S. ambassador to Den mark and current foundation president. The remainder of Prince Charles’ schedule has not been worked out, according to Kelly. The royal heir last visited Texas in 1977, when his trip in cluded tours of a South Texas ranch and the Space Center near Houston. White said the prince’s visit will be a highlight of the state’s 150tli birthday celebration. “I’ve known all along that the Texas Sesquicentennial was going to be a celebration fit for a prin ce,” he said. "I couldn’t be more delighted to have the prince par ticipate in our anniversary.” THE BROADWAY BARGAIN: Buy 4 Great Broadway Performances ' and get BRIGADOON FREE!
