comes changes: in sleeping habits, in
addresses and in campus organiza
tions. And Student Government is
no exception.
One of Student Government’s
goals for this school year is to com
municate better with the student
body, Student Body President Sean
Royall said.
“The reason we want to do this is
because the information we have in
Student Government is for the stu
dents,” he said. “We want to get the
information to the student, espe
cially those who are very passive.”
The first step toward this goal was
the formation of a new department
in charge of communications, both
external and internal.
Externally, the department will
bring information from Student
Government to the students, and
send feedback to Student Govern
ment, Royall said.
Student leaders will be scheduled
to speak to different organizations,
from hometown clubs to Memorial
Student Center committees to fra
ternities and sororities.
“It will be a question and answer
session to tell what’s going on in Stu
dent Government,” Royall said.
The department also will sponsor
an issues and grievances committee
that will meet about every two weeks,
he said.
“Anybody can come and sit down
and raise their hand about a prob
lem or complaint,” Royall said. “It’s a
way to get Student Government to
the students.”
Internally, the committee will
help inform Student Government
members about the workings of the
government and the duties of their

“We have had a problem inter
nally that people on different com
mittees do not feel that they are a
part of Student Government,” Roy
all said. “They are compiling a news
letter so that each committee is able
to see what goes on in Student Gov
ernment.”
An additional responsibility of the
communications department will be
to take opinion surveys from 1,000
randomly selected students on va
rious issues, such as the admission of
women in the Aggie Band, Royall
said.
Another project is the installation
of 11 Student Government informa
tion boards across campus within the
next couple of weeks. The boards
will include Student Senate sched
ules, weekly agendas, copies of legis
lative bills, committee meeting an-
nouncements and member
selections, and Student Government
events.
Executive Vice President Lindsey
Dingmore said the purpose of the
increased communication efforts is
two-fold.

“Can we have a roommate-to-roomnune discussion?"
“One is our (Student Govern
ment’s) image among the student
body,” he said. “It’s no secret that
students at A&M are not confident
with their Student Government and
therefore don’t utilize the services
that Student Government offers. I
feel like our attendance level is not
what it could be and we attribute
that to bad communication on our
part.”
“Second, we are known as Student
Government and students should
have a general idea of what Student
Government does,” Dingmore
added.
Group seeking volunteers
to clean up Texas shores
Associated Press
AUSTIN — Texans are being in
vited to pick their favorite lake next
Saturday and help clean the trash
off its shores.
“We are aiming at seven picked
lakes but if anyone wants to select
another lake to clean up, they are
welcome to it,” George Bristol, chair
man of the Texas Conservation
Foundation, told a news conference
Tuesday.
Bristol said the sponsors of the
