All residence halls and lounges will close May 10 at 6 p.m. for the summer break. On-campus students must list room damages on inventory cards before they check out. This card will be compared with the inventory card the student filled out at the begin ning of the semester in order to de termine damages he will be responsi ble for. The student may be charged the following fines: • A $15 fine for failure to turn in room keys. The fine will not be re funded even if the key is found and returned. • A $25 fine for failure to clear the room properly. This fine in cludes failure to sign inventory card, vacate the residence hall at closing time or check out with a staff mem ber. • A $10 to $20 fine for failure to clean the room properly. This fine depends on the condition of the room and includes failure to remove trash or discard property. • A fine for failure to dismantle lofts, missing furniture, or properly maintain the phone and the room will depend on the extent of the damage. Glenn Ferris, housing operations supervisor, says that not only should the students’ rooms be clean, but they will be fined for dumping their trash or furniture in the halls. To avoid a $20 reconnection charge, students who have long dis tance service with General tele phone Co. need to advise the com pany of any plans to remain in the same room for the summer sessions, Ferris says. All phones will be disconnected May 10. The cancellation deadline for on- campus housing for the first sum mer session is May 30, the second summer session is July 6 and the fall semester is June 1. If a student forfeits his summer deposit, his fall reservation will auto matically be cancelled. To speed up checkout, Ferris says 30 minute loading zones will be es tablished during finals week. All other rules regarding motor vehicles and bicycles wdl remain in effect. A memorandum will be sent to the 5,000 dormitory rooms and will outline the checkout procedure in detail. FBI investigates gunshot fired at district judge Associated Press WACO — A shot was fired at U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr. of Waco but the judge was unharmed, the FBI said Wednesday. The FBI agent in charge of the in vestigation refused to comment fur ther on the Tuesday night incident other than to say there was an “on going investigation.” Smith, wno became a federal judge in December after serving al most two years as a U.S. magistrate in Waco, referred questions about the incident to the FBI. John W. Dalseg, special agent in charge of the FBI in San Antonio, was meeting with the judge Wednes day evening in Smith’s Waco office. “I’m not going to comment other than to acknowledge that a shot was fired at the judge last night,” Dalseg said. Smith was the indirect target of a death threat last year made by a man who told a telephone operator that he was going to kill a federal judge.
