Or in the apocalyptic theories of contemporary au thors. He sees it in children and in the people who will train them. “There’s nothing more im portant in the world than tea ching,” he says. Hovle is a futurist, but he is a teacher before all else. His big gest concern as a professor of educational administration at Texas A&M is teaching people to plan for the future. Hoyle’s office in Harrington Tower is as different from a fortune teller’s tent as possible. Team photos of his baseball days here at Afi^M hang on the walls and pictures of his family clutter desk and shelves. And despite his doctorate in philos ophy and his awards on the walls, the man is as comfort ably cluttered as the room it self. The future, he says, depends on what we teach our children in school and at home. And Hoyle says cur rent trends in education to in crease public schools funds but cut funds for higher education are short-sighted. “One of the reasons public schools are not as good as they could have been is that our ed ucators are not as prepared as they could have been,” he says. “It’s a paradox to me as an ed ucator and very bewildering to me as a futurist.” Hoyle uses trends in popula- See page 12 Give our best to your love.
