The “renegade” Kickapoos planted a live oak tree in the soil of three states — Wisconsin, the land of their ancestors; Oklahoma, the land of their wandering brothers; and Texas, the land they now call home, in a ceremony marking occupation of the 125-acre site down river f rom Eagle Pass. Dozens of somber tribe members watched as Bishop Rene Gracida of the diocese of Corpus Christi delivered the last payment on the S313,()()() parcel of land 8 miles south of Eagle Pass on Tuesday. Gracida presented a check for almost $115 thousand from the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Foundation to former land owner Billy La Quey. The Kickapoos named their new homeland Nuevo Nacimiento, Spanish for new birth. NEWARK, N.J. — Diamond Shamrock Corp.
