"With sured we’ve promised to the 18 human service agencies in Brazos County,” Stallings said. United Way supports local agen cies such as the Mental Health Men tal Retardation Authority of Brazos Valley, Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America and the Rape Crisis Center. This year’s campaign has ex ceeded last year’s pledge total of $396,000-by more than $20,000 and has passed the $400,000 mark for the first time. “We still need to finish our job in order to meet the goal we estab lished to fully fund the United Way agencies in our county,” Stallings said. “We hope it can be done within the next few days.” Recent pledges which greatly in creased the total included a St. Jo seph’s hospital employees’ pledge of $7,322, an employees’ contribution of $3,483 from Republic Bank A&M, a K-Mart employees’ pledge of $1,620 and a $1,242 gift from the Steak and Ale restaurant.
