EVERY FRIDAY
The Brazos Valley Symphony Or
chestra performs its first concert of
the 1984-85 season tonight at A&M
Consolidated High School. The fea
tured pianist will be 16-year-old Os
sie Borosh. '
“I don’t really get nervous playing
in front of a lot of people,” Borosh
said at a rehearsal Tuesday night. “It
gets me on edge when I perform in
front of a crowd, but I wouldn’t call
it nervous.”
Borosh is no babe in the woods
when it comes to playing in front of
crowds.
In addition to performing as a
guest artist at the Japan American
Society of Dallas last spring, she re
cently played with the Baylor Sym
phony and was a guest performer at
Texas Christian University April 1.
Borosh also was the tape audition
winner in the National Concerto
Competition, sponsored in Chicago
last February by Seventeen Mag
azine and General Motors.
“I started playing in College Sta
tion when I was six,” Borosh said.
“My parents bought my sister a pi
ano and I began playing it.
“At the beginning, I played most
of the pieces by ear, but eventually
got a teacher.”
Last August, Borosh moved with
her family to the Philadelphia area
where she now studies in nearby Bal
timore with the world-renowned
cbncert pianist Leon Fleisher.
In addition to studying with
Fleisher, Borosh, a junior in high
school, stays busy doing homework.
“I am taking several classes at
school right now including calculus,
chemistry and French,” Borosh said.
“It takes a lot of perseverance and
hard work to practice on the piano
and keep up with my homework.”
One of the pieces Borosh will be
playing is Beethoven’s Cadenza No.
3. She is using a Steinway piano.
A cadenza is a piano solo in con
certo.
“My favorite compdser is Beetho
ven,” Borosh said. “My favorite
brand of piano is Steinway, they,
tend to have good action.”

The symphony starts at 8 p.m. in
the A&M Consolidated High School
Auditorium. Tickets can be pur

Mr. Hill resigned from law

due to personal pressures and
after receiving an
overwhelming vote of “no
confidence" by the Police
Officers Association.
Of the two candidates for sheriff, only Ron Miller is capable of
taking office and leading the department effectively. He works
with local agencies, knows current operating procedures, and is
seriously dedicated to his career. We know we can depend on him.

Come to
Matamoros
for dinner.
Imagine dining on a veranda overlooking the ocean, a
cool Mexican breeze blowing in your face. Taste
guacamole with just the right amounts of tomato and
lemon, and enchiladas so full of melted cheese that they
are about to explode. Feast upon tamales, spicy tacos,
rice and of course, frijoles. Now you could go to coastal
Mexico for these delicacies. Or you can come to
