But not so the Broncos’ offense, which almost gave back a 17-14 vic tory over the Green Bay Packers — a triumph the defense seemingly se cured in the first 37 seconds of Mon day night’s game. The Packers lost their sixth straight game despite quarterback Lynn Dickey’s throwing 371 yards during a swirling snowstorm. Wide receiver James Lofton caught 1 1 passes for 206 yards. Denver remained first in the AFC West with the Los Angeles Raiders thanks to the Orange Crush defense. Denver scored its fifth and sixth touchdowns of the season on fumble recoveries. They also caused three other turnovers while repeatedly th warting the Packers near the goal line. “It’s bizarre,” cornerback Louis Wright said of the Packers fumbles on their first two offensive plays, that went for Broncos’ scores. “I’ve never seen a defense that makes things happen like this one does,” said safety Steve Foley, who with Wright, scored the touchdowns. Perhaps the 1977 Broncos were as good. That year, the team advanced to the Super Bowl after the best start in the franchise’s history. Now the Broncos, 6-1, have matched that start. “Tom Jackson just made a good hit,” Wright said of Foley’s touch down play. For the Packers, it was a terribly frustrating night to climb out of a 14-0 hole only to fail to score when drive after drive ends pointlessly. Eddie Carcia missed field goals of 37 and 29 yards. Dickey fumbled the snap and lost the ball on the Denver 4-yard line. “You just can’t do that and expect to win,” Dickey said. “It always comes back to haunt you. No pun in tended but it’s the snowball effect. It’s pretty typical of the way this sea son’s gone.” Lotion, who caught a 54-yard scoring pass to make the score 17-14 with 7:31 to play, said the losses were getting to him. Steady As She Goes “It’s hard losing six in a row,” he said. Texas A&M Sailing Team members take one of the team’s newly acquired Vanguard 420s for a test sail at Bryan Utilities Lake.
