Rabies is a viral disease that affec ts

mucous membranes in the eyes, nose

Though most people-associate ra
bies with savage, violent behavior,
there are actually two patterns of ra
bies — furious rabies and dumb ra
bies.

Symptoms of dumb rabies are dtf-
ficulty in chewing, swallowing and
drinking. The animal may have
trouble walking and appear to be
c hoking. Paralysis spreads through

A pamphlet about rabies distrib
uted by the Texas Department of
Health recommends lollovsing these
steps when bitten try an animal:
• Identify the animal so it Cats he

Odom said several hundred uueen
bees were purchased from a Texas
keeper poor to dsacoverv of a mice
infestation at the Chandler Bee
Farm in Weslaco, T exas.
That dtscoverv led Odom to slap a
quarantine on the importation of
bees or beekeeping equipment from
T rxas in July

to fly and collect pollen As a result,
the bees die of starvation.

chased honeybee queens from the

bees or bee equipment into Loui
