Striking copper employees:

Las, T uesday appealed to the
company's major creditors to recon
sider their help in "propping up" the
firm.
In a briefing for reporters, steel
workers President Lynn Williams
saad the union was launching a cor
porate campaign against Phelps
Dodge because of revelations con
tained in the company's most recent
luaiterfy report to the Securities and
xchange Commission.
About 2,000 members of the steel
workers union and a dozen ocher
unions have been on strike since July
1983 at Phelps Dodge operations in
Clifton. Moreno. Douglas and Ajo,
Ariz and El Paso in a wage dispute
