Drill teamers at A&M
‘Step and one, two, smile, three, four, kick...OK, let’s
try it again.’
This is the sound being heard throughout campus this
week. More than four hundred girls from 17 high
schools throughout the state are here for the American
Drill Team School which runs through Thursday af
ternoon. The school is being sponsored by the Aggie Al
liance.
In addition to learning dance routines and marching
drills they also receive instruction on poise, projection,
motivation and self discipline. Classes are held in East
Kyle, G. Rollie White Coliseum and on Kyle Field.
Alhough this is the first year that this school has been
held at Texas A&M, the large number of participants is
encouraging, said executive vice president Joyce Pen
nington.
Above left, members of the Stratford (Houston) High
School Spartanaires learn a new step. Above, head se
nior instructor Kathy Wheat addresses the drill team
members on poise in G. Rollie While. Left, the Tom C.
Clark (San Antonio) High School Top Cals enjoy the lec
ture.
