Lost and found auction Tuesday
By MARY FRANCES
SCOTT
Reporter
The Memorial Student Cen
ter Lost and Found Auction will
offer everything from umbrel/
las to gold jewelry from 10 a.nr
to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the MSi
lounge.
There will be a preview of tie
items at 9:00 but bidding vill
not begin until 10:00.
Sarah Melanie Wilson, ctair-
man of the auction, said its
highlights this year afe several
gold bracelets, an opal anc gold
ring and a man’s gold Seiko
atch. Other items include cal-
ulators, umbrellas and basket-
jails.
Wilson emphasized that the
auction is cash only. However if
you bid on something and don’t
have enough cash to pay for it,
Wilson said the item will be held
for you as long as you pay be
fore the auction ends.
The items for the auction
came from the MSC lost and
found desk. Items are turned
over to the auction if they are
not claimed within six months.
Wilson said an item with a name
on it is taken to the University
Police Department, which tries
to contact the owner.
She said if someone sees
something at the auction that
belongs to him and can con
vince her of that, then she will
return it to him.
The auctioneer, former
Bryan Mayor Lloyd Joyce said,
“Some people miss some really
good buys by not coming (to the
auction).”
Joyce said he did the auc
tioneering twice last year and
that he’s looking Toward to com
ing next week.
Wilson said, “The money
from the auction goes in to fi
nancing MSC committees.”
Last semester the auction
raised $3,000 but Wilson said
she is expecting $1,500 to
$2,000 this semester.
In the past the money has
been used for decorating the
MSC at Christmas, Wilson said,
but the money is not earmarked
for that specific purpose. How
ever, she didsay the amount
and quality of the decorations is
a good indicator of the auction’s
success.
